Forest School

Dear Parents/carers/grandparents and children,

At West Lane, you might have noticed developments on the school field. This is our exciting 'Forest School' Area.

We have used willow and logs to weave a beautiful fence, archway, fire pit area and Dome shelter so far. These will continue to grow and become denser, turning this area into a fascinating wilderness for pupils and (grown ups!) of West Lane to explore and enjoy.

Friends of West Lane Christmas Fayre - 2011

Santa's Grotto.JPGAs 10am fast approached, the finishing touches were being put in place; the chocolate fountain was gushing, the cooks were cooking and helpers were helping at the stalls. The face painters were ready with some fabulous colours and the crafts were waiting for the glitter and glue. Santa was on his way and would be arriving in plenty of time to get settled in his comfy chair, all that was needed was for the doors to open...

WOW what can I say, people arrived and kept arriving throughout the morning and into the afternoon. They queued for tickets for the tombola stalls, they queued for soup and a hot dog, they even queued for Santa! They made Christmas cards, pop up Santa's and so much more.

They went from plain and very well behaved patient children to Beautiful Butterflies, Disco Queens, Pirates, Tigers and many more amazing creations thanks to our Fantastic Facepainters.

A very big thank you goes out to all those who donated items as without your generosity we would not have been able to hold such as successful event. A huge thank you to those who helped in the preparation beforehand, on the day and especially the cleaning up!

Did I mention is was a successful event......together we have raised in excess of £1500 so far with the raffle prize tickets to be available at the Children's Christmas Shows to be held soon. We will update you with the winning tickets and the final total before Christmas.

Christmas Fair - Reminder......

It's not too late to donate items for the Christmas fair being held in the Lower School Hall on Saturday 26th November 2012. We are planning on having a chocolate and booze tombola as well as stalls for toys, books and a fabulous raffle.

There will be face painting and christmas crafts to keep the children happy and of course Santa will be there.....he might even read us a story. Write him a letter and post it in our special postbox to be sure of a reply.

Please come along and support our school as all money made is given to the school to improve the learning environment for our children.

The Really Good School Dinner

We would like to participate in the second Really Good School Dinner appeal this year.
10p is enough to buy a school meal in the World Food Programme's Appeal and helps to guarantee an education for some of the poorest children in the world. Without this help, many children have to stay at home and work to feed themselves.

As the world's largest humanitarian aid agency, the World Food Programme provides school meals for 22 million children in some 70 countries. It relies entirely on donations to continue its vital work.
Can you spare 10p each day to help feed a child in another part of the world ? 50p will feed a child for a week, only £2.00 to feed a child for a month. Please will you send your donations into school from Monday, 1st February 2010 to Friday, 5th February 2010 inclusive in an envelope marked 'The Really Good School Dinner'. Thank you.
Please follow the link to see if West Lane can fill the virtual dining room with the school lunches that we are able to purchase.

Christmas Card Recycling

Christmas cards are not just for Christmas thanks to recycling boxes at all libraries, the Civic Centre main reception plus receptions at Shearlegs Road and Park Road. Cards can be recycled until end of January and will be donated to the Woodlands Trust. As well as cards the Civic Centre (only) will also take batteries. Marks and Spencer's, WH Smiths and TK Maxx will all have recycling points in store across Gateshead and the North East.
Keep on recycling.
Thank you

School Open Friday 8th January 2010

School will be open as usual travel conditions permitting on Friday, 8th January 2010. If possible, it would be really helpful if children could have a change of footwear with their wellingtons. Thank you for your help.
