The sun came out for us, and so did the people, and that resulted in a fantastic Summer Fayre on Wednesday 16th June.
There was a really good turn out from the community as a whole and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Year 1 and 2 enjoyed an afternnon of fun games as part of their reward for good behaviour. Although it was more like November than June, the children kept warm running around and had smiles on their faces!
Year 5 and 6 children were teachers for the afternnon and led all the activities. Well done to everyone who took part.
Mrs Akroyd's and Miss McKenry's class had fun collecting data on their traffic survey. We used our information to create a graph in the ICT suite. We spotted cars, lorries, vans and even a tractor!
Year 2/1 went on a visit to the Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside. We all had fun seeing landmarks such as The Angel of the North and The Millennium Bridge.

The Lions of Zulu Land visited our school and we just loved watching their very energetic dances and listening to their wonderful songs during the one hour performance at the beginning of the day.
After the dancing, the 'Lions' came into all of our classrooms and taught us some of their dance moves,
and about their language and culture.
At the end of the day, the whole school came back together again and we got the chance to demonstrate some of our new found skills.
What did you think about the Spring Term reward? Please leave your comments below.

Year 2/1MA had fun showing their special adults what they had learnt in their topic 'Feathers and Fur'. They sang songs, played instruments, danced and even performed a play about Noah's Ark. Well done Year 2/1!
At Winlaton West Lane Primary School we take E-Safety very seriously.
Check out the links below, games and further support about how to keep safe online.
Please take the time to look through this information and discuss it with your child. This will help to re-inforce what they learn in school about using the internet safely.
Here is what Year 1/2 are learning during this Autumn term. Our topic is Fabulous Food.

On Monday, Lynne from Gateshead CLC visited Winlaton West Lane Primary. Lynne carried out an e-safety talk with each year group to reinforce how to get the most from the internet and stay safe whilst doing so.
You may find the following website useful as it compliments the talk that the children received from Lynne.

In year 2/1 we have been looking at how the weather changes each season. We have drawn some season pictures showing lots of different types of weather. Our pictures were so good, the Evening Chronicle have decided to use them for their own weather reports.

Can you guess what the weather was like this on this day?
I'll give you a clue, look at his hat!

Keep looking in the Evening Chronicle to see if you can find any more of our weather pictures.
This week Miss Fothergill’s class have had great fun, learning all about France. We can now all count to 10 and say the days of the week in French. We have learnt lots of interesting facts about France and have really enjoyed tasting lots of French food. Our favourite food was French baguettes with brie cheese or caramel sauce umm!
On Thursday we all made a collage using pictures of France. Miss Fothergill thought George's was fantastic.
Year 1 and 2 had a special visit from Paul and Lenny from the local Fire Service Team. They took time out of their busy schedule to give us a talk about fire safety. We leant lots about the dangers of matches and other household appliances. Lenny taught us what to do if our house ever caught fire. We now know that we need to STOP, shout FIRE, ring 999 and GET OUT!! We learnt a song to help us remember.
Read on to see some of us dressed up in Lenny's clothes.
Miss Fothergill's class have been on a hunt, looking for different plants and insects that live around our school. We decided that we would like to try and make an insect using natural materials. So we went outside and collected lots of natural materials. We collected stones, sticks, leaves, pebbles, petals and lots more. Then we went back into the classroom and made some fantastic creations.
Can you guess what these insects are?
For our excellent behaviour this term we had a special treat. A man called Isiziba from Zimbabwe came in to teach us Gum Boot dancing. It was a dance the African miners did to communicate with each other, as they were not allowed to talk when they were working. We had great fun, clapping and stomping our wellington boots.
We have just done some gumboot dancing. It was our reward for good behaviour this term. A man from Zimbabwe came to teach us how to dance. The dance was made up by miners in Africa so that they could talk to each other whilst they worked.
Read on to find out what some of the children thought about our special treat.
Following our visit from Pippa Bell we have collected lots of natural materials and created our own land art. Tell us what you think. Can you guess what animals we made?

We have been trying to add and subtract different numbers. We have been doing okay but Mrs Nugent decided that we would be do better if we were a bit more practical in our approach. So we have been looking at problems and finding all possibilities. We looked at a problem called Bean-bag Buckets. Mrs Nugent had four pots and 3 balls, we had to throw the balls into the pots to see how many combinations of numbers we could make. It was lots of fun throwing the balls and most of them went into the pots!! Then we recorded our findings into our books or onto whiteboards. It was much easier when we 'acted out' what we were doing (throwing the balls). What do you think of our work?
Our topic for this half term is 'A World without Flowers'We have been up to all sorts of exciting stuff. We are having a bean growing competition, growing food that we can eat (mint and parsley) and we even had a visit from Pippa Bell. She showed us lots of pictures of the different seasons of the year, we had to be art detectives and find clues to guess the season. It was very interesting.
Mrs Nugent was definitely inspired. She cut up a picture of Van Gogh's painting of 'The Sunflowers' then she gave us all a bit to copy using pastels and paint. Then we put all of our pieces together like a big jigsaw to reproduce the famous painting. What do you think?
Pippa Bell came to excite and inspire Year 1 and Year 2 last week. She showed us how to link art with science and how to use Mother Nature to create some fantastic paintings, collages and sculptures. She gave the children lots of ideas to try out and today we all made some land art from objects that we collected from the school grounds.

Once we had collected lots of twigs, stones, grasses and leaves we went back to the classroom and made lots of pictures based on nature. Kieran made a bird, Shannon made a tree and a flower and Billy made a snake in the grass.Everybody in the class made something wonderful and I took lots of photos !If only I could work out how to put the photos on to this website, you could all have a look at what we did!
Mrs Nugent's class have been planting beans this week. We are trying to find out what will happen to the beans. Most of the children think that the roots will grow first. Read our recounts which will tell you what happened. Why not visit our website again to see how our beans are getting on!
Year 1/2 have been learning all about fruit and vegetables. As part of our topic 'Fruitastic' we all designed and made a healthy packed lunch to bring into school. We were very excited about bringing in our healthy lunch and sharing them together in the breakfast room. Our packed lunches were full of yummy things to eat, we had juicy strawberries, pasta salads, crunchy carrots, fruity yoghurts, which were all washed down with ice cold water.
Year 1/2 LF have been studying Grace Darling. We have made a lighthouse to put in our role play area.
