Mini Hockey Finals at Whickham Comprehensive School!

Well done to our Hockey A Team who made it through to the Gateshead Primary School Mini Hockey Finals!

The A Team!
The a team sticks in air.JPG

Despite missing one of our team members due to injury and having run our 'Sports Relief Mile' event on the same day, the team played some exciting (and nail biting!) matches yesterday against other local primary schools.

The weather was hot (and many bottles of water were consumed!) but everyone tried their very best to make Winlaton West Lane proud!

We came 5th out of all the Gateshead primary schools - a fantastic acheivement!

We also received some very positive comments and feedback from the match organisers, who particularly commended Jamie for his 'sportsmanship' qualities and courtesy towards other players / teams. All the school's received 'Respect' awards for their positive attitudes and behaviour towards other teams; shaking one another's hands; thanking the referee's post match; demonstrating respect for one another despite the competitive nature of the sport.

The Results...

A HUGE thankyou to Mr Innerdale (our tireless and hardworking PE teacher) - for not only driving the mini bus (and finding interesting Troy Horses along the way!), but also for once again providing a fun, motivational, learning opportunity where all pupils were given a chance to 'shine'!

Firefighters come to Winlaton West Lane

Yesterday Y5/6 received a fire safety talk from members of the Tyne and Wear Fire Service.

The children learnt about the job of a fire-fighter, about fire safety at home and at school and what to do should they ever discover a fire.

They were all given fire safety activity packs and some even got the chance to dress up as fire-fighter!

Did you enjoy the fire safety talk? What important messages did you learn? Share your 'comments' below.
